Kirkin' o' the Council - everyone welcome!
South Ayrshire's Kirkin' o' the Council will take place on Sunday 19 June 2022. This is your opportunity to witness this traditional ceremony which sees Elected Members commit to serving the people of South Ayrshire.
The Kirkin', which will take place at the Auld Kirk in Ayr at 11.00am, will be led by the Reverend David Gemmell; assisted by the Reverend Scott McKenna, Reverend Stanley Okeke and Reverend William Corbett in recognition of different faiths across South Ayrshire.
During the service, which will last around an hour, Provost Campbell will add his name to the list of Provosts that dates back to 1847. The list is contained within the pages of an ancient Bible and although the reason for this has been lost in the mists of time, the act reflects the long association and partnership that exists between the Church and the Council.
Following the ceremony, a procession of invited guests will make their way through Ayr town centre to County Buildings in Wellington Square, where a civic reception will take place.
Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council, Eileen Howat, said: "The Kirkin' o' the Council is an event steeped in history, where Elected Members reaffirm their commitment to serve the people of South Ayrshire.
"The invite to attend is open to everyone, so please come along and take part in the service."
