Under 22's Travel
Information on free bus travel for young people under 22.
Free bus travel for 5-21 year olds resident in Scotland will be available from 31 January 2022 for those with a valid National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot NEC. Children under the age of 5 already travel for free on commercial bus services and don't need a card.
Apply online
Go to Get Your NEC where you will be taken through the process of setting up a My Account profile and then through the application process.

Existing Young Scot card holders
Existing cards will not work, the travel element must be added before the young person can travel.
Under 16 | Parent/guardian to apply online, provide parental consent and order a new card |
16 or Over | Young person to apply online, provide consent to travel and order a new card Or existing card holders over 16 years can request a card replacement and consent to travel |
Go to Get Your NEC where you will be taken through the process of setting up a My Account profile and then through the application process.
Other enquiries
You can do the following online:
- Add or remove the travel element to a card and request a new card
- Order a replacement Card if yours is lost, stolen, faulty or you have aded the travel element
- Update the photograph on your card
- Change your name or address
