Birthday and anniversary visits

Wedding anniversaries

South Ayrshire Council acknowledges Diamond (60th) anniversaries.

The Provost will endeavour to visit the couple at their home address and present them with a South Ayrshire Council greetings card. All visits will be during working hours - Monday to Friday, except in exceptional circumstances. A photo will be taken and emailed to the couple as soon after the visit as possible, and we can arrange for a photograph to be placed in the local press with the couples permission, but cannot guarantee in which issue it will appear.

Should you wish the Provost to visit, please complete the  Application for Anniversary Recognition (Word doc) [16KB]  and email it to civic.coordinator@south-ayrshire.gov.uk. Please apply at least 4 weeks prior to the date of the anniversary.

In order to process this request, it will be essential for you to provide a good quality photocopy of the celebrants' marriage certificate, which will be retained. Please do not send originals.

If you do not have a copy of the marriage certificate, a copy may be obtained from one of our Registration Offices if the marriage was registered in Scotland.

If the marriage was registered outside Scotland a copy can be obtained from the General Register Office for Scotland at New Register House, 3 West Register Street, Edinburgh EH1 3YT

Lieutenancy of Ayrshire and Arran

The Lord Lieutenant is the Queens representative in the County of Ayrshire and Arran. On attaining the age of 100 the Queen will mark the occasion by sending the person celebrating their 100th Birthday a royal message of congratulations.

The Lord Lieutenant has a number of Deputies throughout the County and it can be arranged for a presentation of the Telegram to the recipient by one of the Queen's representatives.

Notification of the birthday is not usually necessary as DWP have a note of birthdays in connection with Pensions but if no contact has been made by DWP within say three weeks of the birthday the Clerk to the Lord Lieutenant should be contacted. His details are:

Nigel Martin MBE DL at 2 Wellington Square, Ayr KA7 1EN.
Email - nm@martinsolicitors.co.uk
Telephone - 01292 265024.

Royal messages are also sent for 60th (Diamond), 65th (Blue Sapphire) and 70th (Platinum) Wedding Anniversaries. In this event it is necessary to send a copy of the Marriage Certificate to the Clerk above mentioned three/four weeks in advance of the anniversary along with details of the recipient. Again it can be arranged for a personal presentation of the royal message by one of the Deputy Lieutenants.
