Remembering all lives lost to COVID-19
Tuesday 23 March will mark one year since Scotland entered its first national lockdown as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
A national day of reflection will be held in remembrance of those who have sadly lost their lives to the virus, with a minute's silence being observed at 12.00 noon on the 23rd.
The Wallace Tower in Ayr will join many landmarks across Scotland being lit in yellow to 'Illuminate Scotland' on the evening of the 23rd as a memorial.
Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council, Eileen Howat said: "The unprecedented circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic have affected us all, and my thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones.
"This has been an incredibly difficult year, but I believe it has brought communities closer together with a fighting spirit. I'd like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all key workers, NHS and Council staff for going above and beyond to continue to provide essential services.
"Their resilience and dedication really have made a difference to those who need us most."
