South Ayrshire Violence Against Women Partnership (SAVAWP) is committed to addressing violence against women as a form of gender-based violence and to offering appropriate, high quality services to women and children, underpinned by a clear and unequivocal commitment to promote gender equality and inclusion across South Ayrshire.
The SAVAWP is working together to try to dismantle all aspects of violence against women including (but not limited to) domestic abuse, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, child sexual abuse and commercial sexual exploitation.
The SAVAWP is made up of representatives from agencies working with women and children in South Ayrshire including: South Ayrshire Council, Police Scotland, South Ayrshire Women's Aid, NHS Ayrshire & Arran, Procurator Fiscal's Office, Moving On Ayrshire, Ayr Faculty of Solicitors, ASSIST project, South West Community Justice, Barnardos and Ayrshire College.
The SAVAWP is co-ordinated by the Community Safety Team, South Ayrshire Council. Progress and activity is monitored at meetings every 8 weeks.
Strategic Action Plan
The Scottish Government has published Scotland's strategy for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls - Equally Safe - Scotland's strategy for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls. This strategy has been developed by the Scottish Government and CoSLA with inputs from a wide range of partners including Scottish Women's Aid, Rape Crisis, Police Scotland and Health Scotland.
Equally Safe is a strategic framework that has been developed to help organisations and partners align work with one shared goal 'a strong, flourishing Scotland where women and girls live free from violence and the attitudes that help perpetuate it' whilst contributing to the Scottish Government Strategic objectives.
Equally Safe is shaped around the following key priorities:
- Scottish society embraces equality and mutual respect, and rejects all forms of violence against women and girls
- Women and girls thrive as equal citizens: socially, culturally, economically and politically
- Interventions are early and effective, preventing violence and promoting women's safety and wellbeing
- Men desist from all forms of violence against women and girls and perpetrators of such violence receive a robust and effective response
The SAVAWP fully supports the Equally Safe strategy. To ensure consistency and cohesion in South Ayrshire, a comprehensive Strategic Action Plan has been developed and approved by MAP members to align with the 4 key priorities detailed above.
Reporting Mechanism
The SAVAWP reports to South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership which is a Strategic Delivery Group of South Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership.
The work of the MAP contributes to the long term outcome of the Single Outcome Agreement which is 'people are safer as a result of reduced levels of violence, antisocial behaviour and other crime'.
