Council launches new website to promote South Ayrshire
South Ayrshire Council has just launched a new dedicated website to help boost tourism in the area.
'Destination South Ayrshire' www.destinationsouthayrshire.co.uk showcases everything the region has to offer, from long sandy beaches, and market towns to world-class golf, and award-winning local food and produce.
There are some key features on the new website, such as giving South Ayrshire tourism businesses the opportunity to have a free listing. There are dedicated pages for all towns and villages, and communities are encouraged to provide content. The website also allows visitors and locals to sign up for a free e-newsletter.
The popular 'Ayr Through the Ages' app www.ayrthroughtheages.com has also been relaunched. The app is location-aware and guides you through Ayr's rich and colourful past from the 13th to the 21st century, with over 80 locations and points of interest around the auld town. Included in the App are the Blue Bonnet Trails; Tam's Trail and Alloway Trail which feature an interactive map and videos, giving you the chance to walk in Tam O 'Shanter's footsteps from the town centre to Alloway.
We are also developing a Tourism and Events Strategy, and there will be opportunities for communities to contribute to this. Further information will be provided on the Destination South Ayrshire website when available.
Councillor Chris Cullen, Economy and Culture Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "We are keen to be on the front foot and promoting South Ayrshire despite the COVID-19 pandemic. As with everywhere else, our tourism sector has struggled, and we are determined to rejuvenate South Ayrshire as a tourist destination. The new website, together with the strategy will certainly help us achieve this ambition, as we strive to connect our rich history and culture to the modern day and put South Ayrshire back on the world map."
