Naming ceremony
Information on having a naming ceremony.
We offer you the opportunity to celebrate your special family event with a Naming Ceremony for your child or children.
A Naming Ceremony is an expression of commitment to your child in the presence of family and friends, the bonding together of those special people who will play an important role in the unfolding life of your child.
Together with the celebrant, you can include special readings, music and family members or friends to create your own personalised ceremony.
It is a solemn and dignified occasion, which can be used to celebrate the birth of a child, make an announcement of names, or to welcome a child into your family. It is an opportunity to make an open commitment to parenthood and to strengthen relationships by involving family and friends in the love and support of the child's future.
The ceremony is non-religious and can be held at either of our Registration Offices or at an agreed venue. As a part of the ceremony, there will be a signed certificate for the parents to keep as a record of the event. Be aware however, that the ceremony has no legal standing and cannot be used for identification purposes.
